FGM is an abbreviation of female genital mutilation and a traditional practice that is done to the young girls to prepare them for womanhood. The practice has its long term health effects and in addition to this it has negative impacts to the education of the girl, who underwent the operation. Most Somali young girls are circumcised between the age of 5-7year. The immediate pain and the inhuman nature of how the operation is done cause shock and the need of medication that may take time and this results the loss of the readiness in the girl to learn and a decline in her performance and eventually this may lead to the girl dropping from the school. Some girls might be born with defects in the nerve system or the brain as a result of the usage of forceps to take them out of the wombs of their mother after a long, obstructed labor. This lead to slow in learning and retarded growth of the brain
